Animal Outreach Humane Society of McHenry County is a Northern Illinois, non-profit, IRS 501c3, volunteer humane organization. The organization was started by a group of 28 individuals from many different walks of life and age groups united in the belief of the importance and benefits of animals in our lives. Together the members of Animal Outreach have resolved to help facilitate the end of the killing of adoptable animals in our community.
Animal Outreach believes in and conforms to the no-kill philosophy as described in the Declaration of the No Kill Movement in the United States.
Animal Outreach Humane Society will help McHenry County become a community where no adoptable and/or treatable animal or healthy feral cat is euthanized. This will be accomplished by creating, funding, and managing proactive programs which prevent unwanted animals, educating the community on the problems of pet overpopulation and offering solutions, assisting in the altering of animals, reducing the number of feral cats via TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and housing adoptive animals until a home can be found for them.
Our Guiding Principles
- Develop programs in our community so that no adoptable companion animal must be euthanized.
- Develop programs to help people maintain and/or establish life-long relationships with their companion animals.
- Develop programs that promote and facilitate spaying and neutering of companion animals (and feral cats) in the county.
- Foster and promote the link between individuals, companion animals and the environment.
- Develop community services that are readily accessible to everyone.
- Integrate into organizational programs, community outreach and support with other complimentary non-profit organizations.

Many of these dogs come from "high kill" facilities across Illinois, arriving there as a stray of unfathomably being surrendered by their so called "owners". Some of these dogs arrive with severe injuries and other health problems due to neglect and/or trauma. Our mission is to save as many of these dogs from euthanasia as possible.
